Programs of BFCD

1. English Teaching Program

Currently, BFCD has three English Training Centers, one is in Taakseng Khangtbong, second one in Veal and third one is in Tropeang Sess Villages. These training centers have approximately 250 children registered, their ages ranks from 6-15 years old. Most of the children are poorest, poor and some of them are orphans, just lives with their aunts, uncles or grant parents. They seem lack of supports and hope in life, they just attend the public schools and when back they do not have anything to do or think about their study improvement and future.

By seeing with reality happen to the children, BFCD comes up with crucial plan and make them hopes through providing them with English knowledge, morality, thinking system and step by step will provide them with computer skills and other vocational life skills too so that they will have more confidence in life, give them hope and to start thinking in a longer visionary for their living, studying and help the country development in future.

2. Agriculture Production Program      

BFCD has so far been providing only vegetable training, livestock raising techniques and some supported seeds and chickens to 53 families in Angkor Chum district and Siem Reap town. There were helpful for them to produce for their daily living and some families have been sold for their incomes as well. However, there are still many farmers needing further supports on technical training in vegetable, rice and livestock raising and the project specialist plans to provide them according to the results from need assessment survey is conducted early next year. BFCD plans to provide to some farmers who have bigger land plots to cultivate their vegetable for not only consumption but also for commercial selling to restaurants and hotels in Siem Reap town as much as possible.

3. Health Education Program 

3.1 Health Education and Water Sanitation

BFCD has provided training on 10 common diseases prevention including the water and sanitation and hygiene around their houses to 60 families in Angkor Chum district and Siem Reap town. In 2014, BFCD plans to provide health education training to 300 families in 3 villages who are poor and poorest by migrated from all provinces across the country and providing them with subsidiary contributions for treadle pump installations to access the clean water, hygiene and improve their health from day to day.

3.2 Hygiene Campaign

In 2014, BFCD together with community people plans to do the Hygiene campaign in all 3 villages where about 300 people are expected to participate and then they will go from house to house to clean and take out the rubbishes around their houses and fill up the muds causes spoils and dirty for mosquito which so far, these, have been harmful on their health and causes them spent lot of money on medical treatment. The purposes of this campaign, all people are living in clean, hygiene and safety in lives.

4. Vocational Training and Job Placement Program

4.1 Handicraft development

BFCD has been supported around 10 families in making handicrafts for selling such as bags for children, violet, clothes, sculptures. In 2014, BFCD plans to continue to encourage and provide this kind of knowledge in 3 villages to make more products as required by the tourists from over the world. The need assessment survey with the tourists, hotels, restaurants, tourism department, souvenir shops will be conducted as soon as possible early next year and the project is considering to have a shop where to gather, purchase the products from poor people and selling the products on markets in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh even in other tourism provinces, later on.

4.2 Self Help Groups (SHGs)

9 Self Help Groups was established compost of 185 families in 3 villages (Taaksen Khangtbong, Veal and Tropeang Sess) under the facilitation from BFCD. They majority are poor and poorest families including adults, elderly, handicaps. Their purposes starting to save their own money into the groups, making their own decision for setting up bye-law, internal regulation, loaning period, business activities, interest rate as well as sharing their problems related business, family encountered and solving the problems together, in addition, they make the improvement plan for next month. The money from loan, they will use for running business such as glossary selling, noodle selling, handicraft making, fruit tree selling, growing vegetable and livestock raising etc. The vocational training by BFCD specialist will be provided according to their businesses on business plan, techniques and finance operation and management.

In 2014, at least 30 families out of 185 families will have their own handicraft business set up for commercially (10 families each village). The vocational training will be provided to those who interested and high commitment to do the businesses for improving their living conditions and as well as to help the poor people, children, handicaps and elderly people later when their business growing up well.

4.3 Job Placements      

BFCD has been contacting some restaurants and hotels for the job requirements and opportunity for Cambodian especially for adults and handicaps and will be seeking more as well as with souvenir shops, travel agents and NGOs. BFCD will cooperate with other NGOs to provide the skills as required by above industries and will have a regularly communication with them. BFCD will help to coordinate for the job placements for community people after its training, for them to work at industries approximately 50 people in 2014 and will do the monitoring and follow up regularly with industries and community.

5. Good Governance and Climate Changes Adaptation Program

5.1 Good Governance

BFCD plans to provide the training on leadership and management skill to community structures including self-help group committees, local authorities and department involvements. The child right and human right, transparency, responsibility, accountability and morality will be including in this training with a peaceful manner. There are expected 50 persons from different community structures will participate. 

5.2 Climate Change Adaptation

The major problems related to climate change has been occuring as droughts, flooding and last one is storm. These common hazards caused the agricultural production decrease especially rice production which is the main cause of lack of food consumption from 3-6 months round, this impact forced the people in these villages to abandon crops and rice cultivation and immigrated to other countries and some women to work as massagers, restaurant waiters and some travelled to Phnom Penh for finding jobs as garment factory workers. Moreover, the people who living in the villages some of them had borrowed money from money lenders even high interest rate.

So far, BFCD has been providing to 185 families through 10 Self Help Groups with education on how to solve such hazard problems by growing vegetable, raising livestock, making small business to earn income which loaning from Self-Help Groups with very low interest rate, the money is belong to their community revolving funds.

BFCD plans to continue encouraging the existing and new people to grow the vegetable, rice and fruit tree, livestock as for food consumption and commercially. As they are having with small pieces of land so they should have treadle pumps to grow vegetable and fruit tree, raising livestock and having clean and sufficient water for drinking as daily. The rice technique will be introduced to visit the success farmers on SRI cultivation in other province. Later on, the project will consider rehabilitating the water reservoir or canal to connect to farmer rice’s fields if possible. The feasibility study will be taken place.

6. VOLUNTEERS FROM OVER THE WORLD

BFCD has been hosting many visitors, tourists and Board Advisors from over the world such from USA, Australia, Canada, Belgium and Denmark. They were very friendly and kindness to help the poor community people especially willingness to provide English teaching to children as they (children) will be grown to be a good citizen for the country development and keep the peace in WORLD in future. They have seen our children and meeting with community people including: adults, elderly, disable people and vising around 3 villages especially to those who had migrated from other provinces across the country to live and find jobs for their livings.

The Visitors, Tourists and Board Advisors, all they have been keeping their hearts with our Cambodian people and most of them expressing that when they go back they will try to raise some resources to help our children and community as much as they can, and some of them promised to come back by next few months with their families, colleagues, students and some will inform their friends around the world to come and visit the Kingdom of Cambodia, especially to visit ANGKOR WAT TEMPLE, and  they will pass by to visit our BFCD NGO at the 3 English Training Centers too.
